What does it mean to be a disciple?

What does it mean to be a disciple?

The Church has heard it is her calling. We know Jesus chose twelve men to be His disciples. You may have been through a discipleship track before. But, what does that all really mean? Sometimes in our Christian walk, we can think we understand what a word means simply because we use it often enough. Well, in today’s episode, Cameron and Dr. J sit down and intentionally talk about a commonly used word in the church: disciple. If you don’t know why the Church makes such a big deal of discipleship, then jump on in and join the conversation!

03:10 — How did Adam and Eve sew together fig leaves?

04:36 – Can our loved ones in heaven look down on us?

08:28 — We read in 2 Corinthians 10:5, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” What does it mean to take my thoughts captive? How do I do that effectively?

13:21 — We read in John 16:7, these words of Jesus, “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” I get that it’s so that we would have the Holy Spirit, but why is that better? Why is it better that Christ went away?

16:40 — How can we be intentional in our discipleship? Like, how do we practically live out our calling to make disciples?

21:47 — Isn’t it enough to simply bring people to Jesus? Like, why is this word discipleship so important?

23:22 — So, then, how do I know if I am truly a disciple?

24:38 — What responsibilities does a discipler have?

27:08 — What if our personalities don’t mesh? Would it be wise to disciple that person or to have someone else disciple them?

29:51 — What is the cost of discipleship?

32:15 — How do I find someone to mentor me or to mentor? How can I find someone to partner with in discipleship?
